Background

HUMAES Uganda is a subsiduary of HUMAES South Sudan. It was registered by Uganda Registrar of companies limited by guarantee in 2017. It has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Office of the Prime Minister to implement livelihood & environment programs in the refugee settlements and host communities. HUMAES Uganda was launched on 8th August, 2017 in the presence of representatives from OPM, UNHCR, settlement commandant, Refugee Welfare Council (RWC), District Health Office (DHO) and Local Government.

Community Based Enviromental Capacity Building Centre

HUMAES has established community based environmental capacity building training centres (CBECBC). The centres train future trainers for the program, support them with seeds to establish tree planting demonstration fields in the communities. HUMAES works with them to ensure the trees grow.

The centre has trained 10 trainers on seed collection, tree nursery bed management, woodlot establishment and management, soil conservation, tree improvement and common pest and diseases control. The 10 trainers were drawn from Ayilo I & II, Agojo Refugee settlements, Ovuvu, Pakelle Town Board and Cesia Parish  host community.

The trained refugees and host communities established five demonstration fields of Eucalyptus, Teak, and Mango in Mokolo village, Adropi Sub County. Ataboo West, Pakelle Sub County.  Ovuvu East, Arinyapi Sub County, Ayilo I & II Refugee settlement, Pakelle Sub County, Adjumani Distric Uganda.

Gender Based Violence Prevention.

Under Gender Based Violence prevention, HUMAES distibuted 100 reusable sanitary packs and conducted reproductive health education in Mireyi and  Ayilo II primary schools and Hope Restoration orphanage centre in Pagirinya.

 

HIV/AIDS Prevention

In collaboration with Adjumani Mission Health Grade 3 Centre, HUMAES  conducted HIV & Hepatitis outreach exercises which covered the Paridi, Pakondo, Lajopi Village in Cesia Parish where 322 clients were tested.
